Apple MP3 Cell Phone Would Have Market Support

Piper Jaffray maintained an “outperform” rating and a $52 price target on Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) after conducting a survey that revealed interest in a hypothetical “iPhone.”

The 200-person survey suggested an 18% interest in an iPhone, which would be capable of serving as both an iPod and a phone, and be manufactured and branded by Apple.

Piper Jaffray believes that a normalized interest level of 18% is enough for Apple to consider capitalizing on its powerful brand by entering the phone market, which is 13 times larger than the MP3 player market.
